I turn wood mostly for enjoyment. I like to create new and exciting pieces which deviate from the normal path of woodturning. Inspired by the surrounding beauty here in West Virginia, I have created work that extends beyond the norms in today’s woodturning world. With renewed interest in using color with wood, I utilize deeply colored and figured wood and on occasion will use stains, dyes and paint. I have recently begun to incorporate the use of metal accents.
I am a woodturner with approximately 50 years experience. I am a member of the American Association of Woodturners and the vice president of the local chapter, the Mountaineer Woodturners based at Cedar Lakes in Ripley, West Virginia. I am a woodturning demonstrator at the annual West Virginia Art and Craft Fair and at the West Side Ice Cream Social which is part of Charleston’s FestivALL. I create many types of woodturnings with delicate finials as a specialty. I have placed in the top three for the past two years in the juried exhibition “Best of West Virginia” at Tamarack. Born and raised here in West Virginia, I appreciate the natural beauty of the state and generally use hardwoods obtained locally.
