West Virginia Watercolor Society invites artists to apply for juried or signature membership status.  WVWS was formed to promote and insure the high standards of the art of watercolor painting in the state of West Virginia, guide and assist the student and aspiring watercolor artist in West Virginia, and encourage the general public in the advancement and understanding of the broad scope of watercolor painting.

*NEW* Fifth Annual Eastern West Virginia Juried Exhibition
Deadline: August 28
Location: Martinsburg, WV
Fee: $25/up to two works – $10/each for additional works up to a total of four pieces

The Berkeley Arts Council annual juried exhibition, with $350 in projected prize funds, is open to artists who reside in Berkeley, Jefferson, Morgan, Hampshire, Hardy, Grant, Mineral and Pendleton counties in West Virginia.  Geraldine Kiefer, Professor or Art History and Art at Shenandoah University will be the juror.  Additional prizes will be determined by the number of entries.  The exhibition will be on display at Berkeley Art Works Gallery, in Martinsburg, from October 4 through November 11, 2017.

Tamarack is looking for the Best of West Virginia at an upcoming October 5, 2017 jury session to be held in Shepherdstown. Every item sold in the Tamarack facility is first approved through a jury process. In this process, an artist’s product is critiqued by a panel of Master Craftspeople and Artists who look for outstanding craftsmanship, unique design, creativity, and use of materials that are of exceptional quality. Each artist’s work is evaluated and critiqued by jurors who work within their media type.

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History provides grant support for professional and emerging artists to expand or improve their work or share their expertise. .The matching grants cover up to 75 percent of eligible costs for the first year, not to exceed $2,500; or up to 50 percent of eligible costs for subsequent years, not to exceed $2,500.

The Smithsonian Craft Show is a juried exhibition and sale of contemporary American crafts and design held annually in Washington DC.  The Craft Show does not charge sales commissions.  Cash prizes ranging from $500 to $1500 will be awarded to recognize outstanding work.  The Craft Show is looking for artists who produce one-of-a-kind and limited edition objects that have been conceived and perfected by the artist’s own hands and created in the artist’s studio.  All work submitted to the Smithsonian Craft Show must be created and made in the United States.  Three jurors who are experts in the field and newly selected each year choose 120 artists from a large pool of applicants.  Artists are selected on the basis of the originality, artistic conception, and quality of their work.   This year’s show will be held at  the National Building Museum, 401 F Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001, April 25-29, 2018.

The Artist as Quiltmaker is the second-longest running art quilt exhibition in the world.  FAVA deliberately chooses not to define “quilt,” thereby encouraging both established and emerging artists to submit innovative artwork, pushing the boundaries and challenging expectations, whether they use traditional or non-traditional techniques or materials.  Cash prizes will be awarded.

The American Craft Council’s four annual, juried craft shows convene a vibrant community of more than 1,500 of the country’s most talented craft artists – ranging from those just beginning their careers to masters in the field – and reach nearly 50,000 attendees each year. Exhibiting artists represent the broad aesthetic, technical, and material diversity of the craft field, from age-old traditions to cutting edge technologies.
