Tamarack is looking for the Best of West Virginia. Every item sold in the Tamarack facility is approved through a jury process where the artist’s product is critiqued by a panel of Master Craftspeople and Artists who look for outstanding craftsmanship, unique design, creativity, and use of materials that are of exceptional quality. Each artist’s work is evaluated and critiqued by a panel of jurors who excel within their specific media type.

Since 1953, the Huntington Museum of Art in Huntington, West Virginia, has sponsored Exhibition 280, a juried art competition of all types of media.  Artists can enter up to three works. Accepted works will be exhibited at the Huntington Museum of Art from July 14, 2018 to September 16, 2018. There will be three $2,000 cash awards and a purchase award. An illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition.

Open to artists 18 years and older who reside in West Virginia, and all the states that border West Virginia, which includes Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

TAMARACK: The Best of West Virginia encourage West Virginia artists working in all media to submit up to two (2) entries of their work to be considered for inclusion in the annual juried exhibition to be held June 16-August 5, 2018. Artists working in multiple media categories are eligible to enter work from up to three (3) media categories. However, a separate application and entry fee is required for each additional media category.

This exhibition is open to all artists who currently reside in West Virginia. You do not need to be juried into Tamarack to enter.  Cash awards will be given for Best of Show, Second place, Third place and People’s Choice.

WV Division of Culture & History Quilts & Wall Hangings Juried Exhibition

$2,300 in prizes will be awarded.  The juror may award an additional Best of Show prize of $100. The division will provide a Purchase Award and add the purchased quilt to the West Virginia State Museum collection. Winners in all categories receive ribbons. Non monetary Honorable Mention awards may be given at the juror’s discretion. Show opens May 25, 2018, in the Culture Center Great Hall, West Virginia’s premier showcase for arts, heritage, history and culture. Sales are encouraged and will be processed by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History.

Mountain State Art & Craft Fair®: An Appalachian Experience has been part of the West Virginia landscape for more than a half-century. This year’s Fair will be a homecoming and will be July 4-7, 2018 at Cedar Lakes Conference Center, near Ripley, WV. The event is considered the “Granddaddy of Art & Craft Fairs.” Introduced in 1963, the Fair served as a marketplace for West Virginia’s skilled artisans. The “Celebration of Art, Food, Music and Culture” will continue to feature the outstanding artisans of the region in a unique environment.

*NEW* Gallery 64 Murals

Gallery 64 is a continuation of the project formerly known as the Peer to Pier Public Art Project. During the summer of 2018, murals will be applied to the 6 interstate support piers under I-64 interstate. SNTF/COPA is asking that this call for proposals be open-ended and without a specific theme to encourage individual artists aesthetic and unique point of view.

The SNTF/COPA will select 6 artists for the project; each artist will paint one pier. Artists who have participated in previous phases of the Peer to Pier public art initiative may apply. However, proposals submitted by artists who have not yet painted a pier may be given preference. Artists will receive $2,000 per interstate pier. It is the artists’ responsibility to supply their own paints and other materials.

Proposals will be accepted until May 11, 2018. The installation of the project may begin in July 1, 2018 and be completed by September 30, 2018.

The 42nd Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show, a juried exhibition and retail sale, will be held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center from November 2-4, 2018, with a Preview Party on November 1. The jury will accept 195 craft artists.

This show of Art by Hand serves as the Museum’s largest yearly fundraising event and is devoted to bringing wide public attention to the field of craft art.  At the 2017 show, approximately 18,000 visitors attended.  Out of the 195 artists exhibiting, 35 were new to the show.  13 of the 35 artists new to the show were juried in under the emerging artist category.

In addition to the Best of Show award ($1,500), there are nine (9) cash awards ($1,000 each) for excellence selected and sponsored by foundations, individuals and arts organizations.

The 3rd annual Baltimore Fine Craft Show is a juried exhibition and sale of contemporary American & International crafts and design. The show will be held August 30 – September 2, 2018 at the Baltimore Convention Center.  Artists are selected on the basis of the originality, artistic conception, design and quality of their work. The Show does not charge sales commissions.
