The 2018 Jackson’s Mill Jubilee theme is “Keeping Tradition Alive.”  The festival is a celebration of Appalachian Heritage with educational demonstrations, indigenous and bluegrass music concerts, Native American style dancing, chainsaw carvings, gristmill demos, homestead activities, photography, needle arts and quilt show, antique tractors and engines, carriage rides, civil war encampment, top quality artisans, a zip line for the active ones, and kid’s land for the younger festival participants. BBQ (Chicken, Beef, & Pork), homemade ice cream, and more.

Carnegie Hall Juried Exhibition

Tamarack is looking for the Best of West Virginia. Every item sold in the Tamarack facility is approved through a jury process where the artist’s product is critiqued by a panel of Master Craftspeople and Artists who look for outstanding craftsmanship, unique design, creativity, and use of materials that are of exceptional quality. Each artist’s work is evaluated and critiqued by a panel of jurors who excel within their specific media type.

Labor Day weekend Watoga State Park becomes home to Watago Art in the Park, a juried fine arts and handmade crafts festival sponsored by the Watoga Art in the Park non-profit organization. Weekend activities include workshops, nature activities, shopping and entertainment. Vendors may only offer their own original handmade products for sale.  Categories of work accepted include:  Basketry, Clay, Digital Art, Drawing, Fiber, Glass, Jewelry, Leather, Metal, 2-D Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture and Wood.

The Women of Appalachia Project focus is centered on producing an exhibit that showcases the vast talent of the region while representing diversity of lifestyles and personal backgrounds.  The mission is to provide opportunity for a diverse group of woman artists to thrive, and to expose the community to one of Appalachian’s greatest assets, its artists.  The exhibit will travel from Monongalia Arts Center in Morgantown, WV to Ohio University Art Gallery in Ironton, OH, and finally to Ohio University MultiCultural Center Gallery in Athens, OH.

The 71st Allied Artists of West Virginia Juried Exhibition will be held at the Parkersburg Art Center, October 14 through November 10, 2018.  $2,000 prizes will be awarded by juror, Chris Krupinski, AWS-DF, NWS. The Parkersburg Art Center will retain 30% commission on sales of artwork from this exhibition.

ODC is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting fine craft for over 50 years. They present three fine art and fine craft fairs annually: Columbus Winterfair, Greater Cincinnati Winterfair, and the Art Studio Clearance Sale. The goals of ODC’s fairs, exhibitions, education programs and publications are to establish a standard of excellence in craft, encourage creative growth, provide professional support to craftspeople, and build public awareness, appreciation and collection of fine craft.

The market remains on the 2017 Sunshine Artist 100 Best list in classic and contemporary crafts category. Winterfair is supported by a loyal, craft-buying audience of 20,000, and draws patrons from as far as Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Indianapolis.

The Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland is home to the Council’s flagship show, now in its 43rd year. This highly competitive and prestigious show is a must-attend event for wholesale buyers and the public, attracting artists, buyers, and craft appreciators from across the United States.  There are three separate sections in the Baltimore show: wholesale-only, wholesale/retail, and retail-only. Each is considered to be a separate portion of the show and should be applied to separately.

Show dates are February 21, 2019 (wholesale) and February 22 – 24, 2019 (retail).

The Smithsonian Craft Show

The Smithsonian Craft Show is a most prestigious juried exhibition and sale of contemporary American craft in art and design, held annually in Washington DC.  Three jurors who are experts in the field and newly selected each year choose 120 artists from a large pool of applicants.  Previous exhibitors must re-apply each year.  No one is grandfathered into the show.  There is no quota for any category of Craft Art.  Artists are selected on the basis of the originality, artistic conception, and quality of their work.

The Craft Show does not charge sales commissions.  However, accepted artists are encouraged to donate an item for the Show’s on-line auction, raffle, or other fund-raising initiatives, the proceeds of which benefit the Smithsonian.

The 24th international juried exhibition is dedicated to enhancing the public’s awareness of contemporary craft while providing a venue for established and emerging artists alike to share their functional and sculptural creative endeavors.  The juror is Perry Allen Price, Executive Director, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston, Texas. Price will judge the work based on its technique, design, concept, originality and craftsmanship and select the award winners on December 7, 2018. $8,000+ in prizes will be awarded.

The exhibition will run from December 7, 2018 to January 26, 2019 and will be held at Wayne Art Center, 413 Maplewood Avenue, Wayne, PA, 19087, 610-688-3553.

NATIONAL

The Southern Appalachian Artist Guild Juried Exhibition

The 2018 National Juried Show is sponsored by the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild (SAAG) and the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association (BRMAA). Cash prizes totaling $5,000, including $1,500 for Best of Show, will be awarded. The SAAG National Juried show, which is in its 11th year, will be on display during the peak visitor months of October and November, attracting interest from the surrounding tri-state metropolitan areas of Atlanta, Asheville, Chattanooga and Knoxville. Artworks selected by the juror will be displayed in the Richard Low Evans Gallery located in the historic courtroom of the Art Center, which is home to the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association in Blue Ridge, Georgia. The 2018 show will be judged by Z.L. Feng.
