The West Virginia Folklife Program is now accepting applications for the inaugural West Virginia Folklife Apprenticeship Program. The Apprenticeship Program offers up to a $3,000 stipend to West Virginia master traditional artists or tradition bearers working with qualified apprentices on a year-long in-depth apprenticeship in their cultural expression or traditional art form with the aim to facilitate the transmission of techniques and artistry of the forms as well as their histories and traditions.  The 2017-2018 West Virginia Folklife Apprenticeships will begin on December 15, 2017, and run through December 1, 2018.

Tamarack is looking for the Best of West Virginia at an upcoming December 1, 2017 jury session to be held in Huntington. Every item sold in the Tamarack facility is first approved through a jury process. In this process, an artist’s product is critiqued by a panel of Master Craftspeople and Artists who look for outstanding craftsmanship, unique design, creativity, and use of materials that are of exceptional quality. Each artist’s work is evaluated and critiqued by jurors who work within their media type.

The Smithsonian Craft Show is a juried exhibition and sale of contemporary American craft held annually in Washington DC.  The Craft Show does not charge sales commissions.  Cash prizes ranging from $500 to $1500 will be awarded to recognize outstanding work.  The Craft Show is looking for artists who produce one-of-a-kind and limited edition objects that have been conceived and perfected by the artist’s own hands and created in the artist’s studio.  Artists are selected on the basis of the originality, artistic conception, and quality of their work.   This year’s show will be held at  the National Building Museum, 401 F Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001, April 25-29, 2018.

The 23rd international juried exhibition is dedicated to enhancing the public’s awareness of contemporary craft while providing a venue for established and emerging artists alike to share their functional and sculptural creative endeavors.  Wayne Art Center welcomes Nora Atkinson, The Lloyd Herman Curator of Craft, Renwick Gallery Smithsonian American Art Museum, as the juror for the Craft Forms 2017 exhibition. Atkinson will judge the work based on its technique, design, concept, originality and craftsmanship.

Impressions 2018 is a national juried printmaking exhibition that celebrates the continued vitality, diversity and validity of printmaking as a fine art medium and relevant form of expression in the 21st century. The City of Ocala in partnership with the Appleton Museum of Art, Fine Arts For Ocala, and Marion Cultural Alliance is accepting submissions from artists working in North America to participate in the Fourth Ocala Outdoor Sculpture Competition. Ten works will be selected for a 20-month exhibition at Tuscawilla Park in Ocala, FL. Best of Show, Second Place, Honorable Mention, and People’s Choice awards will be selected. Total Awards: $24,000. Artists must be 18 or older to enter.

The National Art Exhibition is one of the nation’s most prestigious juried exhibitions of two-dimensional media. Punta Gorda is geographically situated in Southwest Florida between Sarasota and Naples in an affluent art-buying market. . The exhibition will take place at the Visual Arts Center, February 2 – March 20, 2018.  Total prizes over $7,000.
