The Literary Arts Fellowship helps writers improve their business practice to match their creative practice.

 Should you apply to LAF?

The Tamarack Foundation for the Arts (TFA) Literary Arts Fellowship is designed for emerging writers who demonstrate a high level of skill and commitment to honing their craft and hold the desire to become successful writing professionals capable of leading well-managed portfolio careers and/or small businesses in West Virginia.

Fellowship Timeframe: June 1, 2025 – December 20, 2025

TFA will host six writers in the 2025 cohort: two poets, two fiction writers, and two nonfiction writers.

An overview of the fellowship:

  • Fellows receive a $1,000 award to support their professional development and $100 in travel support.
  • Fellows will be paired with a writing mentor in their genre (poetry, nonfiction, fiction).
  • Both fellows and mentors will participate in a required writing retreat at Concord University in southern West Virginia from June 20-22, 2025. Attendance at this in-person event is mandatory for all program participants. Before applying for the fellowship, please ensure you can fully commit to these dates, as missing the retreat will result in forfeiture of the fellowship.
  • Each fellow will receive two one-on-one business coaching sessions and will participate in six business and financial literacy education webinars with arts business expert Elaine Grogan Luttrull, Minerva Financial Arts. Participation in this component of the fellowship is a requirement. If this component does not align with your needs, please do not apply.
  • TFA’s Literary Arts Fellowship Discussion and Reading Series – Fellows will participate in a virtual discussion and reading series in Fall 2025 (3 virtual events).

The Literary Arts Fellowship 2025 application is now closed.
