Kristen Colebank

I am fascinated by the confluence of pigment and paper.

Watercolor is an exciting medium to explore because of its unpredictability, yet the painting process must be tempered by careful decisions. The resulting work becomes a balance of these competing energies.

As I paint, I seek the extraordinary in the commonplace. I am interested in how light and compositional elements interact — how they draw the viewer into a meditative space and what that space can communicate.

I am primarily a self-taught artist. I was introduced to watercolor in a high school art class and immediately fell in love with the challenging medium. I have continued to explore watercolor as an adult by taking classes and workshops. As a Signature member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society, I have participated in regional and national juried exhibitions and have won a Merit Award in the biennial West Virginia Juried Exhibition.
