About Blake Wheeler

As a painter I want to capture or hold onto childlike imagination through images. My inspirations come from film, video games, music, and nature to name a few.I am interested in painting characters and places that seem as though they could be from a distant past or possibly a coming future. I like to present these ideas by including surreal , whimsical, or historic elements. I want to attempt to be as multi-fasted as an artist as possible to remain flexible and keep things interesting and the viewer engaged.

Biography

I am a traditional painter, illustrator, and mural artist born and raised in West Virginia. I discovered a love of drawing at around age 5 and have been making pictures ever since. I went on to study fine art at West Virginia State University and focused on painting, drawing, as well as printmaking. My paintings have been in group shows locally around the US, and I have created multiple murals in the Charleston West Virginia area. I also illustrated a independently published book called ‘Season’s End’ and had an article titled ‘Pop cultures mesh in artist’s work’ written by Zach Harold in the Charleston Gazette.
