Notorious Notions was founded in 1988 as an official way to share my jewelry work. I displayed and sold my wearable art at numerous juried shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s including Oglebay Arts Festival, WVU Mountaineer Week, and the Rhododendron Festival. My jewelry was among the items sold at the West Virginia Store formerly in the Charleston Town Center Mall. Recently, retirement has allowed me to refocus on Notorious Notions.

Biography

My artistic journey began in 1986 with the purchase of a pair of handmade earrings at a music festival and the thought, “I could make these.” Without the advent of the Internet and the proliferation of chain craft stores, I headed to the public library. In other words, I am primarily self-taught. However since 1986, I have been fortunate enough to attend week long workshops at Touchstone Center for Crafts and Rio Grande, as well as online and local classes. With practice and some training, I expanded my art to include glass fusing and a variety of bench jewelry techniques. As Notorious Notions, I first displayed and sold my wearable art at numerous juried shows in West Virginia in the late 1990s and early 2000s including Oglebay Arts Festival, WVU Mountaineer Week, and the Rhododendron Festival. Since retiring from my“day job” in 2015, I have been able to focus more on my craft and have recently become a Tamarack artisan. I am also a member of Allied Artists of West Virginia and the Tamarack Foundation.

My training includes Touchstone Center for Crafts (Pennsylvania), Rio Grande Winter Workshop (New Mexico), and Amanda’s Glass Art. I have degrees in M.A. Psychology (Marshall University); M.S. Accounting (Georgetown University); and B. A. Sociology (University of Wisconsin).
