About Sara Wines

Fayetteville-based artist, Sara Wines (Hutchinson), has been exploring and evolving her work with alcohol ink since early 2019. Her current process includes diluting ink and moving the solution with air and heat until the flowing alcohol evaporates leaving interesting, organic shapes that are later lined in gold, mounted on wood panel, and sealed in resin. Working in this way, allows the artist to live in the moment as she responds to the surprising compositions that develop instead of working with a static vision of the end in mind. As a self-taught artist, Sara strives to create pieces that evoke vibrant energy and spontaneous happiness through her unique style and radiant use of color.

Biography

I am a self-taught alcohol ink/mixed media artist. Originally from Ona, I moved to Fayetteville, West Virginia in 2011 to pursue my career as an elementary educator. The recovery after a serious rock climbing injury in 2017 reignited my creative journey, and I have been exploring new media and techniques in abstract work since then. I live at home with my husband, dog, and cat.
