About Jonathan Hyde Hamilton

My work is influenced by 19th century American folk pots, especially those made in the South, medieval European pots, and both Japanese and Korean folk pots. I grew up visiting pots in the Freer Museum.

Biography

I’m a self-taught potter making functional ware using clay I dig in Hampshire County. My several glazes include traditional ash glaze. The work is fired in both oxidation and reduction atmospheres. I throw my pots using a kick wheel. I’ve been making pots for 50 years.
