By design, the bulk of my landscape photography work is in West Virginia. With the many beautiful mountains, forests and streams, West Virginia is the perfect home base for my work. I strive to capture the natural beauty of the Mountain State under dramatic light and seek to make images with captivating compositions, often using long exposures to further enhance an already enchanting scene. I’m always thrilled to show off the magnificent beauty of West Virginia to my photography workshop attendees, especially those from out of state and from other countries, and they more often than not leave with a deep appreciation of our great state. The two books I’ve authored have brought much attention to the fact that West Virginia is a state full of beautiful waterfalls, with many more streams yet to be explored. My work with advertising agencies, the National Park Service, state and regional tourism bureaus, hospitals, cancer centers, and numerous corporations have provided many examples of why West Virginia is a special place to visit often or to call home.

Biography

I am a West Virginia based Landscape Photographer, Author, and Workshop Instructor. Through my photography, my ultimate desire is to glorify God’s creation and showcase the natural beauty of West Virginia, and inspire others to preserve and protect the many special places found in the Mountain State.

For over thirty years I have been traipsing about West Virginia in search of grand vistas, majestic waterfalls and intimate forest scenes. I spend most of my time exploring and photographing the amazingly beautiful scenery found in the New River Gorge National River, the Monongahela National Forest, the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge and the various state parks and wildlife management areas throughout the state.

I am the author of Waterfalls of Virginia and West Virginia, and coauthor of the multi-award winning book: West Virginia Waterfalls: The New River Gorge. I conduct photography workshops throughout West Virginia and beyond. My images have appeared in print and digital publications – both regional and national – are in private and corporate collections and have been used for various advertising and marketing campaigns.. I work with several agencies with duties ranging from capturing specific images for various publications to covering events like the National Boy Scout Jamboree. I was selected as Photographer in Residence for the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge during the summer of 2010. I am a Juried Fine Arts Photographer with Tamarack: The Best of West Virginia, located in Beckley. My work can also be viewed at Buxton & Landstreet Gallery in Thomas, WV, Wild Art and Wonderful Things in Fayetteville, WV, the retail shops at Adventures on the Gorge in Lansing, WV and the historic Coal House in Williamson, WV. I reside in Williamson with my wife Melissa, our daughter Hannah and my trusty hiking companion Rocky, our mixed-breed dog.
