MarisaMade was founded in 2015 and is the design studio of artist, Marisa Jackson. Her source of inspiration comes from her two children, and words that inspire, educate, and celebrate the little joys in life. The first piece of her collection was the Animal Alphabet which was painted with watercolor and gouache for her eldest son who sees letterform in everyday objects.
MarisaMade aims to produce modern stationary and art prints that possess artistic qualities that can only be found in handmade products. Our style is detailed, modern, whimsical, playful, and packs a ton of cheer and positivity. We want to bring happiness to our customers through products that help imbue optimism, or celebrate an event, person, or memory.
Biography
My name is Marisa Jackson, and I am an illustrator, painter, calligrapher, graphic designer, letterpress printer, and owner of MarisaMade Illustration & Design Studio. Originally from Cross Lanes, WV, my family and I relocated to Craigsville, WV.
Prior to starting MarisaMade, I worked as an art director for a magazine, and a graphic designer for small agencies in WV and Pittsburgh, PA. In 2008, I took a position with Target Corporation as an Human Resources manager, and four years later left my full-time job to become a stay-at-home mom. Becoming a parent gave me a new perspective on my creative direction and inspired me to work toward opening my own studio. My illustrations are inspired by my children and the way they celebrate the smallest joys in life.
I was awarded Best in Show at the SIGUCCS Conference for a brochure designed for West Virginia University.
I am apprenticing under letterpress printer Diane Radford of Dog and Pony Press and have taken Sharon Hanse’s Copperplate Calligraphy workshop.
