About Moment Johnson (Angela Johnson)
I originally hail from Virginia, but it was my decade-long stint in Utah that sparked my deep connection with rocks. The breathtaking landscapes, rich with stones, inspired me to collect and transform them into animal replicas, leading to the creation of Sacred Totems—a name symbolizing the sacred link between art, nature, and all life. In 2016, I moved to West Virginia, where my family resided, and shifted my focus from sculptures to jewelry. I found joy in creating wearable art, crafting unique pendants that captured the essence of the stones in a way that allowed them to be seen and appreciated by many. In 2021, I discovered the art of stone intarsia. This intricate technique involves assembling small pieces of various stones into cohesive designs or patterns. My passion now lies in creating vibrant landscapes from a variety of multicolored, natural stones. Each piece is a testament to the beauty and diversity of our planet, the macrocosm within the microcosm. My inspiration comes from the natural world and the intrinsic beauty found within the stones themselves. Through Sacred Totems, I aim to honor these natural wonders and share the joy and tranquility they bring.
Biography
I am a self-taught jewelry artist specializing in stone mosaic designs, inspired by the rich textures and landscapes of the natural world. My journey as a lapidary artist began in Utah in 2015, where I first fell in love with rocks and began carving miniature stone sculptures. Though I no longer sculpt, I continue to honor that creative foundation through my studio, Sacred Totems. Now based in West Virginia, I carefully shape and combine natural stones into intricate, wearable art. Each piece reflects my deep appreciation for the colors, patterns, and rugged beauty found across our vast planet, bringing the essence of nature to life in every design.
Each piece I create is a unique exploration of how stones can tell a story—whether through miniature landscapes or abstract compositions. I love the challenge of blending different materials to craft something that feels both timeless and personal.
Since 2022, I have exhibited my work at juried art shows, including Mountaineer Week, Oglebay Fest, and AnnMarie Sculpture Gardens ArtsFest. In addition to showcasing my designs, I also create commission pieces, working closely with clients to bring their visions to life.
I am always exploring new techniques and materials, pushing the boundaries of lapidary art while staying true to my love of nature’s raw beauty.
