About Steven Hughart
My work is centered around growing up in an impoverished Appalachia, mostly Southern WV. I am an expressionist and creating art is a very therapeutic process for me. Growing up poor and during the opioid pandemic that suffocates our area I have had many hard life lessons and traumatic experiences. I take these experiences and make beautiful works of art. I like to make beauty from my pain. It helps me heal.
I am an artist blacksmith and sculptor from Southern WV. I have lived off of every exit from Kenova to Cedar Grove growing up. I was born in Huntington and graduated high school as part of the last class of DuPont High School in 1999. I have have earned my MFA from Southern I’ll University Carbondale in Metals, and achieved my BFA/sculpture from Marshall University. Owner of Blacksnake Blacksmithing and Art Studio LLC in Barboursville, WV. My work has been featured in Artfields and published through various organizations and publications online. I was also a research assistant for international artist Rick Smith and have traveled abroad to Munich, Germany.
