About Steven Hughart
My work is centered around growing up in an impoverished Appalachia, mostly Southern WV. I am an expressionist and my processes are very therapeutic for me. Growing up poor and during the opioid pandemic that suffocated our area I have had many hard life lessons and traumatic experiences. I take these experiences and make beautiful works of art. I like to make beauty from my pain. It helps me heal.
I am a artist blacksmith from Southern WV. I have lived off of every exit from Kenova to Cedar Grove growing up. I was born in Huntington , WV and graduated high school as part of the last class of DuPont High School in 1999. I am entering my final year of Grad school at SIUC MFA program. I achieved my BFA/sculpture from Marshall and I have a home/studio in Barboursville, WV. I make pieces to sell at craft shows and makers markets on my extended breaks until I graduate next May when my business will really pick up. My work has been featured in Artfields and The In Art Gallery most recently. I am also a research assistant for International artist Rick Smith whom I learn from daily and have traveled abroad to Munich, Germany were I got to meet various wonderful artist and makers.
