About Savannah Schroll Guz
I consider my art a kind of world-building effort, whereby I create a miniature universe that is influenced heavily by research I’ve done or things I’m reading during the period I’m creating the work. I often explore the sensation of freedom or (more often) the concept of rootedness, and I am always interested in storytelling, but with the understanding that the story may be interpreted differently by each person who views the work and brings their own associations to the piece.
Biography
I am a mixed-media artist based in Hancock County, West Virginia, just outside the city of Weirton. My work is in private collections from NYC to San Diego and has been shown in Asheville (NC), Cleveland, Harrisburg (PA), Hudson (NY), Minneapolis, Pittsburgh, Rochester, St. Louis, New York City, Weirton (WV), Wheeling (WV), and York (PA). Representing the state of West Virginia, I was one of the 36 artists involved in the Her Flag project (www.herflag.com), which has been on view on the facades of both the Clinton Library in Little Rock (AR) and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington (DC).
