My goal is to create works that are sophisticated, yet free-flowing. I am inspired by the organic beauty that arises from heat induced alchemy, pushing boundaries, to go from “flow to form.” My paintings evolve from their own momentum. Ever since I was a child, color has had a very emotional attachment for me. I get lost, only to find myself, in the creative process as I paint. I wish for others to be as moved as I am, especially by the interesting textures and depth afforded by encaustic.

Biography

I am an encaustic artist. I paint with a torch. Encaustic painting uses the transformative nature of heat. This medium is made from molten beeswax, tree resin, and earth pigments. By torch-fusing at around 1,400 degrees, the paint is permanently bonded to wooden canvases, forming a rigid, enamel-like surface. After years of painting in realism, my current body of work is abstract. As a self-taught artist of thirty plus years, WV native, a Tamarack artist, and member of the Tri State Artists Association, my work has been featured in various juried exhibitions, featured at the Huntington Museum of Art, David L. Dickirson Gallery, and Romano & Associates, Charleston.
