About Addyson Aftanas

As an artist I am drawn to exploring the interconnected themes or mortality, environmental consciousness, and spirituality. Through the medium of ceramics, I have found a way to delve into these complex subjects, utilizing the nature of clay to convey both the fragility and resilience of life. My work serves as a reflection on the cyclical nature of existence, inviting viewers to contemplate the beauty of the natural world and profound impact of human actions on our planet. By infusing elements of religious symbolism and ritualistic practices into my pieces, I seek to provoke thought and introspection about our place within the cosmos and the inter connectedness of all living beings. Ultimately, my art aims to inspire a deeper appreciation for life, a reverence for the earth, and a sense of existential wonder in the face of mortality.

Biography

I am a sculptor and potter, and I work mainly in ceramics with the recent addition of some fibers work. I am currently a full-time student at Marshall University, studying visual arts, while also doing freelance work with my artwork. I have always been drawn to art, and after my first semester here at Marshall, I decided to switch my major to pursue it full-time. In my art career, I have been in several exhibitions, and won several awards for my art. I currently have some of my pottery for sale at the Tamarack Marketplace, a local restaurant called Breathe Wine and Culture Co. , as well as my online shop, yallternativepottery.com.
