About Caitlynn Buckler
I enjoy creating naturalistic creatures in surreal yet nature inspired environments to imply a sense of narrative as well as mythology. Lately I have enjoyed incorporating patterns through my prints. Having the patterns lay behind or infront of the subject matter, exist within or around the subject matter, and exploring mine and my subjects’ connection to these patterns. The prints I create often involve creatures such as birds, fish, cats, (simple animals) intensified by my use of pattern and anthropomorphic ideas. These creatures are often inspired by mythology, stories, beauty, pottery, art, experiences, and more.
A lot of the information in my work has to do with aspects of my own life. I talk a lot about my OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I utilize the creatures and patterns within my prints to illustrate the rollercoaster of emotions that one may experience when they are plaueged with the mental disorder. It is my goal to use my prints to talk about OCD and raise awareness of a disorder that is widely misunderstood and sometimes not understood at all. I also enjoy bringing attention to the positive aspects of the disorder that make me the artist I am today, such as my fascination with all sorts of patterns or certain animals or my obsession with obscure myths and folklore.
My work as of late has allowed me to explore these subjects of which I am obsessively fascinated with. Working primarily in lithography and relief printmaking I am able to use different mediums within printmaking to explore pattern making, color palettes, composition, and themes.
