About Jorn Lynae Mork
In 2018, I opened Wandering Bird Gallery in downtown Lewisburg, WV, to share my art with the community. While the gallery thrived for over two years, the onset of COVID-19 forced its closure. Since then, I have pursued new opportunities to grow and expand my artistic reach. My paintings are now exhibited in galleries and available online at www.JornMork.com.
In 2024, I launched Creekside Metals, a wholesale business specializing in unique metal art, which is now featured in galleries across 25 states. That same year, I established a retail website, www.wereallylovebirds.com, to bring my metal creations directly to customers. These ventures reflect my commitment to innovation and sharing my art in accessible and meaningful ways.
Biography
Growing up on a family farm in rural Minnesota, I was surrounded by nature’s rhythms and textures, which continue to inspire my work today. My parents instilled in me a love for art, archaeology, and the value of persistence. I am self-taught. My journey began in 1986 with a van, an etching press, and a passion for printmaking. Over time, my art evolved, and I transitioned to painting, finding new ways to express myself through color and texture.
My studio, once just a corner of my kitchen, is now a bright space with large north-facing windows that bathe my work in light. I gravitate toward oil pastels and oils, applying paint directly with my fingers to create a tactile connection with the materials. The immediacy of oil pastels, layered on dark gessoed surfaces, allows me to explore vibrant colors and dynamic compositions. My palette is inspired by nature—yellows from springtime finches, reds from trumpet vines, and earthiness from ancient stones. I often explore themes of Time, Women, Birds.
I consider my work Narrative Symbolism. Each piece is an invitation for viewers to pause, reflect, and engage with the world as I see it.
