About Katherine Spencer
Spencer and Kuehn Fine Jewelry Studio was founded in 2018 as a partnership between Katherine Spencer and John Kuehn. John Kuehn, a GIA Gemologist, has been in the jewelry industry in Morgantown since 1976, but retired until Katherine Spencer offered an idea for a different style of full service fine jewelry store. Spencer and Kuehn not only repairs jewelry on the premises, but we are all artists who design jewelry, make all of our own inventory, and have the expertise to help people with all of their fine jewelry needs. Embrace Unique is the motto we live by in the store, designing and creating unique pieces of fine jewelry for jewelry lovers!
Biography
I am a small scale metal artist with a focus on wearable fine jewelry. I am originally from Rochester, NY, where I earned my BFA and Masters of Science for Teachers from Rochester Institute of Technology. I studied under master jeweler Tim McCreight at Maine College of Art for my first year of college before finishing at RIT. I moved to West Virginia in 2006 to teach art in the public school system, kindergarten-12th grade, to support my fine jewelry making habit. While teaching in Wetzel County, I won “Best In Show” for my Grape Vine Necklace from the artist show at the Pittsburgh Technical Institute in 2008. Today, I own Spencer and Kuehn Fine Jewelry Studio with a business partner. I make one of a kind fine jewelry to sell in the store as well as all of our commissioned bespoke fine jewelry. My passion is to create one of a kind pieces of heirloom quality fine jewelry for individuals who want something completely unique.
