About Marjory Moses

“Modern. Organic. Metal + Stone.” This his is how I describe my business MoondanceArt Jewelry..
I start with quality components: mainly sterling silver and authentic gemstones that I have carefully curated for years. I start each piece with a sketch just like I do with a painting. processes include traditional metal-smithing: hand-forging, sawing, soldering, sanding, polishing, hand-crafted patinas, and stone-setting. I believe that how it’s made matters and strive for quality in my craftsmanship.
I’m drawn to geometric elements that I like to wear myself, and I like to create pieces that reflect what I see in nature, just as I do in my visual artwork-so mountains, florals, leaves, and vines are motifs that appear often. I’m always striving to make even the simplest piece of jewelry a little work of art that someone will love wearing every day. My jewelry and art can be found in several shops in West Virginia, at selected juried art fairs, and on-line via my website.

Biography

I am a west Virginia native who has spent my life working, raising a family, and making art in the mountain highlands of my home state. From childhood on, I have always been thinking about, studying, or making some kind of art. Over the years, I have worked in such diverse media as printmaking, stained glass, art photography, and painting, and my visual artwork has been included in state and national exhibits and collections. MoondanceArt Jewelry was born in 2009 when I decided to try to recreate a lost earring. My favorite creative endeavors combine handcraft and heart and mind working together, and I continue to create paintings as well as jewelry.
My non-art working life has been as multifaceted as my art practices – I’ve been a teacher, a small business person, and a community health administrator. I am a founding member of the artist co-operative Artists At Work in Elkins where I continue to advocate local support for the arts. My family, the mountain state, my creative life, and being in community with other makers bring me great joy at this stage of my life.
