I love painting in realism and wildlife is by far my favorite subject. I enjoy painting animals, bringing the zoo inside my head to life with my brush and paint (oils or acrylics) on canvas. Painting a living creature, whether trying to capture the soulful expression in its eyes, or show its primal instincts for survival, is my true passion. I also enjoy painting portraits of people and the challenge that creating realistic skin tones an facial expressions presents me.
Biography
I am a working artist and illustrator of over 25 years and a lifelong resident of Greenbrier County, West Virginia. I have loved drawing and painting since childhood. While I enjoy painting in a variety of mediums, I prefer oils and acrylics. As a self taught artist, I have worked my entire artistic career honing and developing my own painting style. I recently became a member of the Greenbrier Artists where I attended my very first workshop with Arthur Evans. In 2018 I became a Tamarack juried artist and look forward to entering my work into shows beginning in 2019.
I have had several solo exhibits, including my new spring 2019 show ‘The Wild’- The Wildlife Art of Misty Murray-Walkup at Carnegie Hall. I’ve illustrated several books, and recently published a collection of 22 of my wildlife prints in book form, ‘The Wildlife Art of Misty Murray-Walkup ‘ which was recently selected for addition to the United States Library of Congress. Exhibiting my art across the United States, I have won numerous awards for my work over the years. Most recently I was awarded People Choice at the White Sulphur Springs Dandelion Festival annual art show, and Best in Show at the Rupert Library Annual Art Show.
