About Nicole Suptic
I am an artist that specializes in portrait artworks and creations. As a young child, I was an avid and creative individual. Throughout the years, this remained true. I attended college at Concord University, which is where I started using acrylics on canvas to build up a large collection of drawings and paintings.
People have the innate ability to show personality through facial expressions and body language. An expression written on a person’s face can display a strong mood or a feeling. As an artist, I like to create these expressions to capture personality and illustrate a moment in time.
I have always been connected to realism and portraiture. My tools for creation are acrylic paints and graphite pencils. I am very thorough while planning my compositions. For my paintings, I would like to instill a sense of environment using detail, color, and space, while also recreating the expression, the mood, and the feel of the subject. The scenes and subjects in this series are taken from my own experiences.
The restaurant series started when I was photographed inside of a restaurant by a friend. I posed with a milkshake by making a silly expression. This event inspired me to create many paintings with various expressions and personalities. Restaurants are great environments for socializing. Habitually, people will share dinner with family and friends and create personal memories of the surroundings. I want my audience to feel like they are sitting across the table from my subjects while sharing an experience of getting to know someone new.
Biography
I am an artist that attended Concord University and obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art. I grew up in Southern WV in a very rural area. When I was very young, I found entertainment in practicing my drawing abilities. Drawing became an important part of my life, and I developed a connection to realism and portraiture. As I grew older, I became interested in a career in the art field. Initially, I attended classes at the Erma Byrd Higher Education Center and after, I transitioned to the art department on campus. During college, I studied with Jack Sheffler, Mark Tobin Moore, and Jamey Biggs, all of which were great influencers along my artistic journey. I attended many different art courses which is where I studied art history, printmaking, watercolor, and advanced studies courses in drawing and painting.Even though I was already very skilled with a pencil, I had never incorporated paint in my work until college. I started using acrylics on canvas during my first painting class, which was very important for me as an artist. Learning those new techniques drastically influenced the future of my work. Presently, I work primarily as a painter, but sometimes I still implement graphite and prismacolor pencils into some of my pieces. My most recent series includes paintings featuring my friends seated in restaurant settings which showcase their unique expressions and personality. My work has been featured in juried exhibitions across the state and I also dabble in painting and drawing commissioned art pieces.Awards
