About Grant Jacobs
11:11 Music Productions seeks to network West Virginia based musicians, venues, private and public event coordinators, theatre companies, and students for the purposes of continuing to improve our music community within the mountain state. This is done regardless of genre, and is done equitably to ensure equal access to opportunity for the continued viability of creative endeavors within the mountain state. We understand that continued creativity in music is not only a vital part of our culture and heritage, but can be a driver of tourism and economic activity as well.
Biography
Hello! My name is Grant Jacobs, originally from Huntington, WV; I left the state after high school to pursue a degree in Music Education and Jazz Studies from the University of Louisville (graduated in 2011). While living in Louisville I directed church music and youth ensembles, performed for musical theatre and opera, toured with multiple musical acts in a variety of styles, performed in multiple symphony settings (including at Carnegie Hall in New York), and taught Pre-K and Elementary music and movement. After enrolling in graduate school for Education at WVU and moving back to the mountain state, I began performing with a regional and nationally touring band from Charleston known as The Company Stores, in the process recording/filming with two Grammy winning producers, and one Emmy winning videographer. Upon finishing my Master’s and moving to the Charleston area, I now teach Middle School Math; and continue pursuing multiple musical opportunities throughout the mountain state. This includes music directing for multiple theater companies (Children’s Theatre of Charleston, and The Alban Theatre), as well as playing for Huntington Area Regional Theatre and the Contemporary Youth Arts Company. I still perform regularly (more so now as things re-open from quarantine) with 6 regional/area bands (Minor Swing – Gypsy Jazz, The Heavy Hitters – Neo-Soul and Funk, Rotations Jazz Quartet, PianOKE – Live Band Karaoke, The Rusty Souls – Country, The 11:11 – My original band) and substitute for others. I will be hosting area open mic nights this summer, and have started my own company “11:11 Music Productions” to network and book musicians, venues, and private event coordinators in the area. The motivation for beginning this Music Production endeavor primarily being that many state-wide musicians whom I know and respect often don’t get adequately networked to the theatre companies, private venues/events, or teaching opportunities that could help support them and keep them gigging IN the state of WV (and the greater Appalachian area). I see music as not only a cultural priority for our state moving forward, but an economic driving necessity as well.
