About Helen M Meade
I am a theatre and opera director with a passion for all things performing arts. I believe the communal experience of live theater is unique and life-affirming, and I am committed to supporting live theater in my community as both creator and audience member.
Biography
My directing credits include Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Murder in the Cathedral, Belle of Amherst, Mrs. Shakespeare, The Biddle Boys and Mrs. Soffel, The Telephone, A Fledermaus First Night, L’Elisir D’Amore, Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing, La Traviata, and ZooOpera. I have devised two Shakespeare adaptations: Supernatural Shakespeare and Shakespeare Rehearsed, which I directed for Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks and the University of Pittsburgh Department of Theatre Arts’ Shakespeare-in-the-Schools program respectively. In addition, I have worked on production teams for over 70 shows with Michigan Opera Theatre, Opera Pacific, Dallas Opera, the Hispanic Heritage Awards, Pittsburgh Opera, University of Pittsburgh, Poets Corner, and Beginning with Books. I served nine years as a working board member for Pittsburgh Shakespeare in the Parks, where I focused on production oversight and fundraising.
