About Lesa Smith
I am a West Virginia-based abstract painter who is most recognized for using many layers, natural textures, and a spiritual subject in my works.
Scripture influences me, and the surroundings of mountains and rivers motivate me. Along with acrylics, layering and texture are incorporated into my paintings from nature, such as rocks and bark that I transform into natural pigments and textural elements.
My paintings have evolved into my ministry to spread the hope and healing that art can bring to others’ lives after I personally experienced the benefits that it brought to my own life.
Biography
I am a full-time artist based in Charleston, West Virginia. I primarily paint and acrylics on canvas. I have been involved in art all of my life, but just within the last year or so, art has become my “career.”
I consider myself a prophetic artist, as much of my inspiration comes through scripture or a verse in a song. I also incorporate the use of natural elements and pigments from rocks and stones that I collect along the rivers and in the mountains. I love transforming these elements into some thing that can be incorporated into my paintings.
Being a late bloomer as a full-time artist, I was both honored and excited to be selected as part of the 15th Annual Best of West Virginia Exhibition at Tamarack.
As I continue to grow and learn in the field of art, I look forward to many more opportunities and adventures.
