About Sophia Kelley

I enjoy making work that includes the female form and exploring ideas of what it is like to live in the female experience and different ways to express femininity. I have been through a lot of loss in my life and grief is something I like to show in my work as well. I try to tell a story of grief through nontraditional ways, including brighter colors, playful or loud expressions, with deeper concepts below. I believe death is not always something to be seen as devastating, but celebrated and appreciated for the time we had with our loved ones. My mission is to make work that others can feel or relate to, while also being visually and aesthetically pleasing.

Biography

My name is Sophie Kelley, I am an art student at Marshall University. I am from West Virginia and proud to be Appalachian and part of the lgbtq community. I am an interdisciplinary artist and enjoy making prints, paintings, collages, mixed media work, beading, and photography. I am eager to learn new methods and enjoying expanding my knowledge in different fields. A lot of my work deals with the female form and exploring different ideas of femininity. I enjoy making work that can feel energetic, playful, or loud, but has a deeper underlying message or concept. I graduate Marshall in the winter of 2024.
